Standby generator and backup-power questions
Sizing begins with the loads the generator must support, including starting requirements, operating demand, load priority, future plans, and whether load management is appropriate. The generator should not be selected from square footage alone.
An automatic transfer switch detects loss of normal power and transfers the connected electrical load to a suitable standby source, then returns it when normal power is restored. The complete design must match the service and generator.
Sometimes, but it is not always the best or most economical approach. The answer depends on generator capacity, service size, major loads, starting demand, fuel, transfer equipment, and acceptable load management.
WAIMEA’s written scope identifies the electrical work and any coordination included. Fuel piping, regulator work, tanks, and gas permits must be completed by appropriately qualified parties where required.
Generator electrical integration normally requires appropriate electrical permitting and inspection. The written estimate should identify what WAIMEA will coordinate and what remains with the owner, utility, equipment supplier, or other trades.
The electrical assessment and scope are separate from engine repair, manufacturer warranty work, fuel-system service, and parts support. Those services are included only when specifically confirmed in writing.
